Classical Music at Oulton Chapel

On Saturday 14 June the Cavick String Quartet will be playing works by Haydn, Elgar and Mendelssohn in the beautiful surroundings of Oulton Chapel. This will be the first of what we hope will be more music events at the chapel, which remains something of a hidden treasure in Norfolk.

Tickets are £15 and are available from the Historic Norfolk website. All proceeds will support Historic Norfolk.

Here is a short video of the quartet rehearsing Elgar's Chanson de Matin at Becket's Chapel in Wymondham.

Oulton Chapel is a Grade II* listed non-denominational chapel dating from the early 1700s. It is hidden away in the quiet lanes of the north Norfolk countryside, approximately 4 miles from Aylsham, between Blickling and Saxthorpe.

The red brick chapel has a double shaped gable at each end in the Flemish style, fashionable in the late 17th century. Inside, the ground floor seating and pulpit belong to a nineteenth century re-furnishing, while the original box pews survive in the upper gallery.

The Cavick Quartet are: Ben Lowe - Violin, Anne Hooper - Violin, Ben Payne - Viola, Chris Lawrence - Cello. The quartet was formed in 2009 by leading string players in Norfolk with a shared passion for chamber music and the realisation that performance was an essential part of their enjoyment. They perform regularly in Norfolk, often to raise money for good causes.
