Protecting Norfolk's built heritage
Historic Norfolk is a charity that protects and promotes the built heritage of Norfolk
We seek to achieve this by being:
-
A CATALYST for building conservation initiatives, working in partnership with others
-
A CHAMPION for conservation through campaigning, fundraising and raising public awareness of our work
-
A CUSTODIAN for important buildings where no independent economic and sustainable use exists
Historic Norfolk, established in 1977 as the Norfolk Historic Buildings Trust, has been instrumental in saving over 20 historic buildings that might otherwise have been lost.
Today we manage five properties:
Waxham Great Barn, Oulton Chapel and Burial Ground, Becket's Chapel in Wymondham, Thurton Lodges and Homersfield Bridge. You can find out more about each of these on the Properties page.
We are entirely self-financing and the charity is managed by an active volunteer board of trustees with one part-time employee.
What's On
Join Us
We're looking for a new treasurer to join our active board of trustees.
The role involves overseeing the Trust’s accounts, liaising with the Trust’s secretary and external accountants, attending quarterly board meetings, preparing and presenting quarterly accounts, presenting annual accounts at the AGM, authorising payments (2-3 times per month),and overseeing the administration of the secretary’s pension.
You'll also be able to get involved in non-finance matters, such as specific projects or taking an interest in a particular building if you wish to.
A formal accountancy qualification isn’t essential, but you should have a good grasp of financial matters and experience of dealing with annual accounts and balance sheets, as well as preparing quarterly management accounts. An understanding of managing grant funding would be welcome but is not essential. A keen interest in the built environment and heritage is important.
This is a key role due to the nature of our work and it's essential we have a good understanding of our finances at all times.
